My cloze exercises

Over the last week in room 18 we have been doing 5 cloze exercises and I think that they are very challenging and awesome. My favourite one is number two so far and its story is simple.

A man steals someones bag and gets caught in prison for 12 months but for good behaviour he is released 9 months later. Here are some photos of my cloze exercises.

Thanks a lot for checking out my blog post.

Makey Makey Can Turn Anything Into A Key!

Hello, this term Mrs Drewet introduced us to Makey Makey and we got to have a try!
Sarah and I  were buddies and turned my apple into the space bar, my badge into the up button to make the piano work, we made a controller to make PAC-man move and we did not have time to play Mario.
We had seven cords and one Makey Makey to make things happen.
If you do not know what Makey Makey is then watch the video below.

This is a photo of us doing our Makey Makey stuff.
Like PAC-man and drawing!

Thanks for viewing my blog.

Coding on Scratch

In the past 3 terms I have been expressing myself with coding with my 2 scratch accounts, 1 for home which I used to get my technology badge, and 1 for school. I am here to show you 6 posts (3 from each account) at their most updated. Enjoy my blog post.

The 1st protect is called Lost In Space, it is an animation about a monkey who is lost in space.

Next up is Memory. This time you bang coloured drums and try to remember the colours of the cat.

3rd - We have Boat Race where you use the mouse to make the boat move without crashing into the edge or shark(s).

Game number 4 is called Cat Clicker.tm (Alpha 4). In this game your task is to click the cat and upgrade by pressing the space key.

The 5th game is the 1st 4 player game in scratch where your task is kill all the other players and be the last one standing and that is why this is called Killz.tm.

That leaves us with Platto.tm, in this game you are told to pat the cat and feed it chicken and milk.

Now a bonus protect ready steady translate! Control your O-Language game by pressing space to translate and up to get reddy for the next.

(ONLY DO 1 WORD AT A TIME)

Its been lots of fun making these games.

Three Things About Me

Last term we did some slides on Google. We did them on ourself'as our first slide show.
We had to write on it what we like and a bit about ourself. We also needed to put our name on it.
We used Cool Text to get better texts and got photos from Google. I hope you enjoy my slide.

We also did some korowais, they are visual mihi with the mihi written on it. It is a piece of art using the Māori language.
We used jovis for colour and pencil for sketching. The blue sticky notes are covering some of my personal information.
I hope you enjoy.

Another thing we did were our family korus, a koru is a Māori plant that represent life and family. We had to make a main koru for us and our family korus would grow on us. We used pastels for the colour of the korus and dyed the background. I hope you enjoy my art.

Thank you for checking out my blog and about me.

Camp

Straight after the April holidays, from Monday
30th April to Wednesday 2nd May, I went on
camp to Spencer Park with the Year 5s from my
class and Room 20. Some of the things we did
climbing at the Adrenalin Forest, orienteering, had a lollipop hunt and went to forest survivor with a man from the city counsellor called Pete. My highlight from camp was beating level 2 on the Adrenalin Forest.

Here are my two pieces of writing about my time
at camp. I hope you enjoy them.

Remember When
Remember when....I had seconds at dinner on the second night since I was still hungry.
Remember when...my group did our number roll at orienteering because we thought it was fun.
That was my 2018 camp to Spencer Park.

Remember When...I went at full speed on the flying fox on the playground so that I could touch the pole at the end.
Remember When...I got stuck on the barrels at Adrenalin Forest before I noticed you had a choice to go on a zipline instead.
That was my 2018 camp to Spencer Park.

Remember when...I bounced on the bouncy pillow and had some rests until I regained energy for more bounces.
Do you Remember when...everyone broke their sand dunes although we were told to look after them.
That was my 2018 camp to Spencer Park.
Remember when...I bounced on the bouncy pillow and had some rests until I regained energy for more bounces.
Do you Remember when...everyone broke their sand dunes although we were told to look after them. 55
That was my 2018 camp to Spencer Park.

Camp Challenge
I heard The wind zooming faster than lightning and thunder.
I heard The other kids shouting for help when they got stuck in the trees.
I saw Wally roaming down below as I got near the highest point of the level.
I felt The rope brushing down on my hand as the wind came in.
I felt My shoes wobbling on the rope as I began to tighten my hands with caution.
I wondered How Inoke beat Level 2 as I made my way away from the barrels.

I wondered If I would be 2nd or maybe last, who knows.

Maths explain everything

This term our class has been doing more Problem Solving. We were learning how to solve multiplication problems by using different strategies.

On Thursday we used an app on the iPad called Explain Everything. This app is an interactive whiteboard that allows us to collaborate, write, record and share our maths thinking.

My maths mate and I decided to share how we solved the following multiplication problem. We used the strategy of Place Value.

We hope you enjoy our maths tutorial.

Storybird Poetry Anthology

This term Jackson’s Studio has been writing lots of different poems. Over the last week we have been publishing our poems on a website called Storybird. On Storybird we turned our poems into a book called Poetry Anthology, because an anthology is a collection of poems.

Here is my book where my haiku, diamante, cinquain, acrostic, my James K Baxter inspired poem and two sense poems in it. Can you guess which poem is which?

I hope you enjoyed reading my poems. What one was your favourite?

Chapter Chat - There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom

This term we have been part of Chapter Chat, a twitter based book chat. We have read a book called ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom’ which is about a boy named Bradley Chalkers. Bradley and his friend Jeff Fishkin play together. Most people hate Bradley, especially Colleen. His counsellor Carla left the school because there were too many complaints.

Every Friday we went on Twitter with other schools in New Zealand that are also part of Chapter Chat. When we are on Twitter we answered questions in small groups about what we had read in the last week. Each week we also had to complete at least one quality Chapter Chat activity to share on Twitter.

This is one of my activities where I made a birthday game named Food Hunter. You need to hide food around a small yard. I made this with Keegan.

This is my second activity where I
made a menu for Bradley's school lunch. It has lots of yummy things to eat.

This is my third activity where I went onto Minecraft and then built a life sized bedroom for Bradley. This is what I think his bedroom looks like.

Haiku poem

In Jackson's Studio, as part of our poetry unit for writing we have been learning how to write a haiku poem. A haiku poem is a popular Japanese poem that traditionally has three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables.

We took our notebooks into the playground and brainstormed words associated with an object. I chose a basketball hoop because is easy and fun to write about.

Next we came inside and composed our haiku poem using a website.

Here is mine, I hope you enjoy it.
